With the coming of the summer solstice, Union Lodge #19 will have a Table Lodge. The tradition of a table lodge goes back a long time in Masonic history; when America was young and war was upon us for our independence from the British Empire, the table lodge was often a welcome retreat for colonists who were often otherwise bereft of hope.
In accordance with long standing Masonic tradition, our Table Lodge will be held in honor of St. John the Baptist, to whom - along with St. John the Evangelist - all Lodges are dedicated.
Saint John the Baptist was a cousin of and the forerunner to Jesus. The 24th of June, his birthday, is dedicated to his memory throughout Masonry as one of the Craft's Patron Saints and a central character of our ritual. The adoption of a Patron Saint, at least for purposes of the Craft, has its roots in the medieval stonemason guilds of Europe - a custom which was continued after Masonry's transition from operative to speculative and all the way through today.
In colonial times, lodge meetings were often conducted around the table, and the helpings of food and beverage were served in such a way so that the normal business of the lodge was not disrupted. On June 13th at 07:00 PM, Union Lodge will continue these time honored traditions and in the spirit of friendship and brotherly love, we humbly request your presence.
So please join us and Worshipful Master Levi E. Wilson, III in this festive occasion to help us celebrate St. John the Baptist with many toasts and Masonic songs. Dinner will consist of a high quality seven course prime rib meal, punctuated by a ritual unique to Union Lodge and a special presentation on St. John by Brother Scott G. Arnold, Junior Deacon of the Lodge. Tickets are limited to 40 persons (brethren only, please - EA's and FC's welcome) and are priced at $30 for dinner and a complimentary Union Lodge shot glass - any interested brethren should email
